According to Co-Latino, the paper of the left in El Salvador, President Tony Saca and the deputies on the right voted through last Friday night a 10¢ increase to the price of gasoline and diesel by way of increasing the gas tax. As the editorial in Co-Latino says, the middle class (such as it is) and the poor will be hit with other taxes, such as an augmentation in the price of public transportation. The gas tax increase will cascade into other areas of the public sector.
