Final Vote on S115

The Vermont House of Representatives gave FINAL approval this afternoon to S. 115, by a vote of 94-52. Two of our yes votes were absent. One representative who was absent yesterday voted yes today.

This overwhelming support for the freedom to marry shows just how far we've come.

Now if we could our Repugnican guvnuh to get on board, life would be great. But instead, we will have to deal with his veto.Vermont is being left in the dust all because of Jim Douglas. It's pitiful.

And here's the twisted logic of some opponents:

Rep. Duncan Kilmartin, R-Newport, was one of the Republicans steadfast in their opposition Thursday night. He said same-sex marriage runs counter to 5,000 years of history and tradition.

"The wellspring of our civil rights comes from Jesus Christ dying on the cross," he said.

HUH???????????

But you're really close to having the votes to override. On NPR they were saying that a suggestion had been made that conservatives who were on the fence might just take a walk or go out for coffee when the override vote is taken since 2/3 of those present and voting is what it required.
