All through the night....

Not the Cyndi Lauper song (though I have always liked it)....

But in my heart, these candles in my study (in front of an ancient boom box) burn through the night for an assortment of things.

Mostly for those in the throes of GOEs, that they can remain focused and see beyond them...
for all those who feel lost or who mourn...
for those battling cancer....
for those battling addiction and who might be beginning recovery or rehab...
for the burdens that we all carry silently and quietly.

These prayers are the best I can offer tonight since I am in a place of incredible crankiness, a crankiness brought on by several things none of which have to do with the local scene but with the larger and more global scene albeit ecclesiastical, all of which I need to let go of before I go to bed.

In the words of the New Zealand Prayer Book's Evening Prayer:

Lord,
it is night.

The night is for stillness.
Let us be still in the presence of God.

It is night after a long day.
What has been done has been done;
what has not ben done has not been done;
let it be.

The night is dark.
Let our fears of the darkness of the world and of our own lives rest in you.

The night is quiet.
Let the quietness of your peace enfold us,
all dear to us,
and all who have no peace.

The night heralds the dawn.
Let us look expectantly to a new day,
new joys,
new possibilities.

In your name we pray.
