Many happy returns

Yesterday in the midst of our Easter celebrations, we also celebrated some very special birthdays.

First, there's Phoebe, who was born on Easter Sunday, 23 March 1913. She has waited 95 years for Easter to land on her birthday again. As you know, she broke her hip on Last Epiphany and, so, spent Lent recovering. But as you can see, she made it to church. She received a letter of congratulations and blessing from the Presiding Bishop as well as from our bishop.

And then Peter (l) and Brett (r), also had birthdays -- Peter's is also 23 March and Brett's is the 22nd. This is their one chance to have an Easter birthday. In this photo, I am reading our bishop's letter because he writes in it that he hopes Phoebe can share with them her lessons of patient waiting.

After reading the letters, I blessed all three parishioners.

And, at the end of the service, as Phoebe entered the parish house, people blew bubbles at her. We had birthday cakes but no candles (after all, even if you kept them down to the decades, it still would have been 14 candles to blow out). The birthday people were all very pleased.

It was a grand Sunday.
