It ain't quite NYC

Compa and I had dinner out in Montpelier tonight ( a very rare occasion) at our favourite restaurant, New England Culinary Institute's Main Street Bar and Grill. We finished up (including profiteroles for dessert!) about 10.15 or so.

Across the street at one of the two indie bookstores in town (both are now owned by the same people), there was a small — really small — crowd of youngsters, a few in costumes, waiting for the 11.00 PM opening of the bookstore. At the other bookstore, the door was wide open to reveal the unopened boxes of the latest Harry Potter, with the printing on the box, DO NOT OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT JULY 21, 2007.

Of course, we have already heard about how Scholastic blew it and sent out 1200 copies ahead of time and how one of the people who preordered it immediately put it up on eBay for $250.

Still, I hope this night is special for those kids who are standing in line, even if there are only 50 of them in Montpelier, as opposed to a cast of thousands in NYC or the Washington DC VA burbs.
