And it was evening and morning....

There's barely any time to think other than in the context of the task which is before us, evaluating GOE papers, so this entry must be short.

It doesn't take lots and lots to take a drab, non-descript room on the eighth floor of a conference centre and turn it into a space of worship. For me, candles will do the trick every time. Some of the GBEC chaplains did precisely that, and this is how our altar looked before compline tonight.

The altar is, indeed, high. If you are shorter than 5'6" you'd have a hard time presiding behind it. The back of it, that is, the higher part with two candles, is set into PVC pipes.

Wonderful sermon tonight about confessing one's fears, choosing to live, rather than be buried by fear, embracing life and repeating as often as needed.

Our pick-up choir has had one rehearsal and it looks as though tomorrow night at the eucharist we will sing Elizabeth Poston's Jesus Christ the Apple Tree and on Thursday we'll do Duruflé's Ubi caritas. Neat. It's a bit weird to be 'leading' this group when the choir director/organist of a cathedral is here but he seems happy not to be in charge.

And then there are the exams, which I even more so than ever prayerfully read, because I know that someone close to our congregation has an exam in the pile of 288 out there.
