And yet again!

And yet again we have snow. It is pouring snow out there right now. Granted, I am in a valley so the snow didn't really start for real until this afternoon, but I know of other parts of the state where there already are eight or nine of wet, concrete-consistency inches of snow on the ground.

It must be tough driving out there because when I took this photo, two ambulances, one police car and the crash truck (with 'Jaws of Life') went by. They weren't even tearing by because the road surface is like greased mashed potatoes. Later, a flatbed truck drove by with a car that had a crushed roof. Since then, I have also seen one more ambulance (our town only has two) and a firetruck go by.

Tomorrow morning I am scheduled for foot x-rays at the local hospital 15 miles down the road but if the road is like this there's no way I am going. My choices are either going up to 1900 feet on the highway (and this is an altitude-based storm) or taking a very windy road through a gulf or going on a secondary road in a river plain. Think I will get up, phone down there and say 'I don't think so...'

The long-timers are saying they don't quite remember an April with such dreadful weather. Snow on the ground, yes, but huge nor'easters now? Not. Now, New York City may be remembering the nor'easter of 1992 but that storm happened in December, not mid-April.

Does this mean that we can get another day's extension on our income tax returns? :)

[Night-time update] Compa's sitting in the dark, the electricity having gone off in our house at 1800 feet where already 15 inches have fallen since this morning, 15 inches of CONCRETE snow.

As far as up here at the rectory, it rained for about an hour or sleeted and now is back to snow. I'd say that we've only gotten about four inches thus far. The shed roof has dumped but I am not shovelling it. If I am lucky the plow can pull it back. The driveway took a beating in last week's plowing because the ground was too soft.
