Spring in Vermont

Otherwise known as 'Here we go again.....'

It's official now: this is the snowiest April on record, according to the Fairbanks Museum in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. All it took to break the record was two inches of snow and we've got more than that even here in the valley. I know that each snow picture looks the same (my sister out in Denver and I joke about all the photos we have taken of snowstorms), but their challenges can be different. If you look closely, you can make out the big snowflakes coming down when I took the photo this morning. Now, early afternoon, it is closer to rain. The road is no longer white but wet enough that when cars go by, they spray this mess of snow, mud and water.

Looking north from the front porch. As I write, I can now see across to the mountain ridge and make out clouds. We've only gotten about four WET inches of snow. Elsewhere it's more like six. The temperature clearly is above freezing now beause the snow that was stuck on the electrical lines has melted off. It's still pretty grody out there and I am glad I didn't have to slog up to Burlington.

Even though it's not Friday, the cats show what is the best activity for a day like this: curl up in a nice warm place and keep each other warm. After ignoring the red igloo all winter, they have rediscovered it. Tomorrow I will post a photo of Young Guy who slept in it for the first time ever two days ago.

It's a grumpy, dopey and sleepy day. I am procrastinating on doing income taxes and haven't managed to fill that time with productive things (as I sometimes am able to do). Even my rowing this morning was feeble.
