Holy Week in Vermont

OK, we're going to have a white Easter this year. It's impossible to count on a white Christmas, that only happens in movies, but white Easters are far more common.

Look beyond the feline profile and you will see that the ground is white again.

The weather can't decide what it wants to do. It sleets, rains, freezes, snows. Right now it is raining again. But it has snowed enough to make everything greasy. I just shovelled the ramp, which actually makes it more treacherous, I think. The snow weighs a ton.

I am rather annoyed right now because some smart alecs changed the letters on the sign we had outside advertising the service from 'Holy Communion today at 5.30 All are welcome' to read an obscenity and put the time as 3.50 AM. I am just cranky enough that I phoned it into the police department. It will go on record so that if these idiots think they are being cute, and I catch them, they may just get in trouble. Oh yes, this fits under being rector of a congregation, too. It's not as bad as the time I found cigarette butts smashed into the floor in front of the side altar, the fair linens wadded up on the floor under the pulpit and the candle sticks and crucifix that is on top of the altar on the floor, but it's still disrespectful. (I note that the other signs in town haven't been likewise altered.)

Off to the eucharist. Sermon later.

Post liturgy vignette.... Out the sacristy window, I watched a robin hopping around on the one patch of clear ground, hoping to find food. The scene was so sad: there was lots of wet snow, and then this damp patch of leaves, untouched by snow because it was under the overhang of the parish house roof. The bird bounced around in this small patch, pecking at the ground. I don't think it found anything.

Meanwhile, the church is halfway on the road to Maundy Thursday. There still is a lot of preparation to do yet.
